WELU ESTUARY RESTRORATION: FINDING FUTURE IN ESTUARINE LANDSCAPE

Welu estuary use to be a high productive ecosystem which provide natural resource and ecological service to coastal area. With these environmental and economic benefits, Welu estuary was a place that human settle down for century.  After that, human activities had changed the landscape by forestry concession to charcoal industry, land filling and changing landscape fuction from natural area into shrimp farm which destroy the natural dynamic, biodiversity and productivity of landscape. Moreover, pollution and waste from community area made greatest impact to water quality and animal life. So, as a landscape architect, understanding the dynamic and landscape structure is the key to design for estuary. Planning and management for restoration and infrastructure development will make productivity and biodiversity back to estuary landscape. Using design to be a linkage between human and nature, making estuary- friendly community to be the sustainable living with nature.

The project, WELU ESTUARY RESTRORATION: FINDING FUTURE IN ESTUARINE LANDSCAPE, aim to find the future to estuary landscape which use to be a very high productive area. But nowadays, people have changed the landscape into degenerate area. This project would like to introduce the design planning and management for estuary area to be beneficial for both human and nature by base on the project statement “how should estuary landscape be and how should human living in this landscape?”
The design process for estuary landscape divide into 4 parts

1. Understanding the estuary landscape
2. Identifying the potential and limitation of site
3. Restoration and development process
4. Masterplan design for planning and managemen
